Indian Navy Plans Major Expansion in 2026

The Indian Navy plans to induct or commission 18 warships in 2026, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He described the year as significant for the Navy and said the expansion reflects India’s focus on strengthening maritime capabilities. The announcement was made at the Indian Navy’s Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi, where senior officials discussed operational preparedness and future requirements.
Heavy Rain Expected in Several Parts of India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the northeastern states. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in areas including Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry. Authorities have advised residents in affected areas to follow local weather warnings as monsoon-related conditions continue across several regions.
Protests Over School Textbook Errors in Odisha

Students and members of farmers’ and youth organisations held protests in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on September 30 over alleged errors in school textbooks. A 12-hour statewide bandh was observed, with demonstrations affecting transport in some areas, including the blocking of a national highway. Protesters also demanded accountability from the state’s School and Mass Education Department.
