₹400 Crore Development Works Planned Across Visakhapatnam

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has received approval for a ₹400-crore development programme aimed at improving roads and related infrastructure across the city. The plan includes upgrading around 205 km of existing gravel and WBM roads to bituminous or cement-concrete roads. Pavements, drains, central medians and lighting facilities are also included in the programme. The works are expected to be taken up in phases after field surveys and assessments of local requirements.

Visakhapatnam’s popular Kailasagiri tourist destination is set for further development as visitor numbers increase. The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has proposed improvements to the area, including an alternative ghat road to ease traffic congestion. Officials are also examining proposals for an Energy Park and other attractions to improve the overall visitor experience.

The initiative brings together road-research experts and local authorities to develop more systematic approaches to road improvement and traffic infrastructure.
